About a year and a half ago, we set out to create a course manager extension for LearnDash – the Advanced Course Manager plugin. We believed this extension could genuinely help LearnDash admins smoothen the course creation experience.
Along the way, we added features to improve user management too – functionality that was missing in LearnDash. We were happy with the product we had built and grateful for the community of users that helped it grow.
Changes in LearnDash
A while after Advanced Course Manager (ACM) was launched, LearnDash announced its latest update with a course builder integrated into the plugin’s core. While ACM’s course builder could still be used, having a drag and drop course creation functionality in LearnDash itself meant there wasn’t a specific need to use ACM.
For us, it meant re-thinking the purpose of our product and re-evaluating maintenance feasibility. Was ACM truly offering something unique? Is there an extension or a combination of extensions which could replace ACM? Were there any features we could add to ACM to expand its functionality in a logical way?
We began to weigh up our options. Through all our meetings and discussions it was clear – we were struggling to find a reason to keep growing ACM in a satisfactory and profitable way. Most of the features present and planned in ACM were a part of LearnDash’s upcoming features list.
The Verdict
In spite of giving it our best and pushing on, we knew we had reached a dead end. It was a tough decision to make but one that was unavoidable. So it’s with great regret that we have to share this message with you.
We have decided to discontinue selling and updating Advanced Course Manager.
How does this affect existing users?
Currents users can safely deactivate ACM without the worry of losing any data. For users with active or lifetime licenses, we will continue to offer support but will not offer license renewals, new features or updates.
To make this process as smooth as possible, we recommend the following extensions to keep using ACM features you loved:
- Course builder: Available in LearnDash
- Course summary page: Present in eLumine.
- Course resume: Included in eLumine or Uncanny toolkit.
The Road Ahead
Advanced Course Manager had a good run, but its story ends here. We thank our customers for their support.
