WordCamp Asia 2026: In Conversation With the Community

IN THIS ARTICLE

WordCamp Asia 2026 was one of those experiences that stayed with us, even after it ended.

Having been part of the WordPress ecosystem for over 14 years—building, contributing, and learning along the way—we’ve seen how much this community continues to evolve. But being there in person, surrounded by people who care deeply about what they do, always brings a different kind of perspective.

This time, it felt even more special. With the event taking place in Mumbai, it wasn’t just another WordCamp for us—it felt closer to home in every sense.

Over three days, we found ourselves in conversations, moments, and interactions that went beyond just work. It wasn’t only about showcasing what we do—it was about connecting, learning, and being part of something shared.

Here’s how those three days unfolded for us.

Day 1 — Contributor Day

The event began with Contributor Day, setting the tone for collaboration. The space was organized into different sections—Themes, Plugins, Core, Documentation, Translation, Training, and more—each focused on a specific area of contribution.

With over 1,500 participants and guidance from experienced table leads, contributors across all levels came together to share ideas and work on the platform.

What stood out most was how open everything felt. You didn’t need to be an expert to be part of it.

We spent time moving between tables, observing conversations, and understanding how different perspectives come together to shape WordPress. By the end of the day, there was a quiet sense of satisfaction—people weren’t just attending, they were contributing in their own way.

Day 2 — The Booth Opens

Day 2 brought an energy shift.

The venue became more dynamic as booths opened and people moved around, exploring, engaging, and starting conversations. Before things began, there was a brief moment behind our booth—final checks, small adjustments, and a bit of anticipation.

Once it started, the pace picked up quickly.

We had a steady flow of visitors throughout the day—some curious, some experienced, some just exploring. Each interaction felt different, but equally valuable.

The Caricature Effect

One of the biggest attractions at our booth was the caricature app we had built. It allowed people to create a caricature version of themselves within minutes—simple in concept, but highly engaging in practice.

What started as a small feature quickly became a natural conversation starter. People were curious at first, then surprised, and often amused by the results. At one point, someone saw their caricature, laughed, and immediately called their friends over to try it. Within minutes, a small group had formed, comparing their results and reactions.

Conversations Around AI

Alongside that, many of our conversations naturally moved toward AI—and what stood out was how practical and grounded they felt.

People weren’t just asking what AI can do; they were trying to understand where it actually fits into their workflows. One perspective that stayed with us was from someone who shared that they didn’t want to adopt AI just because it’s trending, but only where it adds real value. That mindset reflected a broader shift we noticed throughout the day.

We also saw strong interest in some of the custom AI-driven workflows we’ve been building, including:

  • Core Web Vitals Monitoring & Alert System — helping teams stay on top of performance metrics with timely insights
  • AI-powered Lead Magnet Creation, https://contentai.bizblaze.co/  — enabling faster generation of high-quality content assets for marketing
  • AI-assisted Keyword Research Tool, https://keywordai.wisdmlabs.net/  — supporting more structured and efficient content planning
  • Beyond these, a lot of people were particularly curious about our custom Claude-based workflow that we’ve been using internally. While it’s still something we’re refining for our own processes, the level of interest around it showed how teams are actively exploring ways to integrate AI more deeply into their day-to-day work.

These discussions often moved beyond features into how such solutions could be adapted to real-world use cases.

When Conversations Turned Practical

A few attendees approached us with specific website challenges, and in short conversations, we were able to suggest possible directions or improvements. In some cases, we even helped out a few people with website redesigns within an hour.

These weren’t long sessions, but they stood out because they were immediate and useful. What began as simple interactions often turned into meaningful exchanges—grounded in real problems and practical solutions.

Beyond the booth, we also spent time exploring what others were building. Walking through the space, you could see a range of ideas—products focused on performance, design, automation, and more.

What stood out across these conversations was clarity. People knew what they were building and why. That made the discussions more meaningful.

By the end of the day, it was clear that the experience wasn’t just about showcasing work—it was about exchanging ideas and learning from each other.

Day 3 — Conversations That Continued

Day 3 felt more relaxed, but no less valuable.

The pace slowed slightly, giving more space for intentional conversations. We reconnected with a few people we had met earlier and continued those discussions in more depth.

Some of these conversations moved beyond introductions into real exchanges of ideas—about workflows, challenges, and different approaches to solving problems.

There was also a sense of reflection in the air. As the event began to wind down, you could see people taking a step back, thinking about what they were taking away from the experience.

What We’re Taking Away

AI is becoming part of the workflow—but with more intention. What stood out wasn’t just the interest in AI, but how people are approaching it. Most weren’t chasing trends—they were asking practical questions around where it actually fits and where it doesn’t.

  • Not “How do we use AI everywhere?”
  • But “Where does this actually make sense for us?”

That shift in thinking felt more important than the tools themselves.

Many of our interactions started as quick exchanges but evolved into more thoughtful conversations.

It made the experience feel more collaborative than transactional.

And in many ways, that’s what stayed with us the most. Not just the tools or the discussions, but the way people showed up—with clarity, openness, and a willingness to share. It’s a reminder that, beyond everything else, this space is still shaped by the people in it.

If any of these conversations resonate with what you’re working on, we’re always open to continuing them.
