How we Helped our Client Migrate their Site from Magento to WooCommerce in under a Week!!

We have often told you about this, haven’t we?

Whether you’ve used Magento for a while or are just starting out, you may be thinking about switching to a platform that’s more user-friendly and cost-effective.

This is the ideal moment to look into WooCommerce – the platform that drives nearly 40% of the world’s eCommerce. It offers versatile and accessible tools for business owners, and a plethora of other advantages, making it a wonderful solution for online retailers of any size.

But transitioning your live store from Magento to WooCommerce can be quite a task. And this was exactly something that was bothering our client.

About Our Client

Our client, Imatest is a Colorado based firm founded in 2004 by photographer (and CEO) Norman Koren that offers software packages, test charts and other equipment for testing the quality of digital imaging systems — still or video, visible light or infrared.

It also offers consulting services to some of the most discerning customers in the digital imaging industry.

The Problem

Imatest had a thriving range of products and services in their catalog, which was growing rapidly on the back of some R&D being put in by their team. When we took up the project, their existing portfolio consisted of 1516 products, 22520 users, and 4358 active orders. The issue was that the higher they scaled, the costs associated with running on Magento went on ballooning – as well as the complications associated with the architecture. They wanted a more affordable and simplistic platform without having to face a downtime on their active orders or live page – simply put, the migration had to happen quickly.

Our Approach

We knew this was going to be a long haul. But we also realize how important it was for them. Needless to say, we spent heavily on midnight oil.

We conceived a solution which was based on 3 fundamental factors – minimal time spent, minimal expenditure, maximum output – the approach that we use for all our key partners – the WISDM approach.

Our Solution

Having firmly established a basis for our process, we deliberated, proposed and executed the following actionables:
  • Migration of store Categories, Products, Users, and Orders from Magento to WooCommerce using the proprietary 3rd party tool LITExtension at reduced cost and time
  • Enabling differential and exploratory pricing structures using our flagship plugin – Product Enquiry Pro
  • Full stack integration for UPS and FedEx using WooCommerce’s in house plugins
  • Facilitating URL directions via the hosting server using htaccess.
  • Webgility WooCommerce Integration activation for eCC.

Impact

While there are many positive numbers that emerged from the process, the biggest impact that we created in terms of execution was a seamless and error-free site that has only improved over the years.

Imatest still runs on WooCommerce and has only grown leaps and bounds. Its range of offerings and its reach has increased manifold overtime, without burdening the site or the backend.

In 2022, Google’s Go -To Android ImageQuality Expert Jonathan Phillips joined Imatest. The biggest impact we believe we created was being a part of the beginning of the growth story of our client.
