Canyon Elementary & Middle School is a California-based public K–8 institution serving 74 students from kindergarten through 8th grade. The school is known for its close-knit community, active parent involvement, and commitment to creating an engaging learning environment for young learners.
At the center of their digital initiatives is Eric Reynolds, who oversees all technical operations and digital infrastructure for the school. With a strong focus on providing accessible and interactive learning experiences, the school embraces technology to support students, teachers, administrative staff, parents, and local community members.
Operating in the K–12 education technology (EdTech) space, Canyon School emphasizes creating a safe, collaborative, and student-friendly digital ecosystem that enhances communication, supports day-to-day learning activities, and ensures continuity of education.
"Building Canyon School’s K–12 LMS was a uniquely rewarding project. The mix of very young learners, multi-teacher collaboration, and high parent involvement pushed us to simplify UX without compromising functionality. LearnDash with WISDM Instructor Role worked seamlessly for distributed course creation, while BuddyPress and form-based submissions made K–2 navigation intuitive. The chatbot meaningfully reduced support load, and the final setup proved stable, secure, and easy for everyone to use."

The Challenge
Canyon Elementary & Middle School faced several obstacles while rapidly shifting their K–8 learning environment online. With limited time and a diverse user base of young students, teachers, parents, and staff, the school needed a system that was simple, secure, and easy for everyone to use.
Overcoming these challenges was crucial for ensuring that Canyon School could deliver a smooth, safe, and engaging online learning experience for its entire K–8 community.
To support Canyon Elementary & Middle School in creating a complete K–12 learning ecosystem, we focused on building an online environment that was simple for younger students, powerful enough for teachers, and accessible for parents and community members — all while ensuring stability, security, and ease of use.
1
To make online learning accessible for Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd graders, we implemented a simplified workflow using BuddyPress and form-based assignment submission.
This setup helped teachers:
Present lessons in an easy, structured format for young learners.
Allow students to upload assignments through a simple form.
View, track, and review submissions directly through form dashboards.
This solution ensured that even the youngest students could participate in digital classrooms without getting overwhelmed by complex LMS navigation.
2
Using the WISDM Instructor Role for LearnDash, we empowered the school’s teachers with independent course-building capabilities.
This allowed them to:
Create, update, and manage quizzes, assignments, and lessons individually.
Collaborate with other instructors to co-develop and refine course material.
Manage student progress without relying on admin-level access.
This setup significantly reduced teacher workload by enabling shared responsibilities and smooth coordination between educators.
3
To assist students, parents, and community members with day-to-day queries, we integrated a live chatbot for real-time support.
This solution helped users with:
Joining classes and accessing Zoom links.
Resetting passwords or troubleshooting Chromebook issues.
Navigating lessons, assignments, and announcements.
When offline, the chatbot provided automated guidance to minimize confusion and reduce support dependency on the school’s technical lead.
4
We implemented additional tools to ensure smooth school-wide operations:
Event management plugin for creating and running online events.
Attendance tracking plugin to record daily student attendance accurately.
These systems improved administrative efficiency and gave staff more control over routine school operations.
Result
✅ Successful End-to-End Digital Transition: Canyon School fully shifted from traditional learning to a reliable online system that worked smoothly for students, teachers, parents, and community members.
✅ Unified K–8 Learning Environment: All stakeholders — including younger learners, older students, teachers, admin staff, and parents — could now use one cohesive platform for classes, communication, and school activities.
✅ Reduced Technical Dependency: With intuitive design and automated support via the chatbot, families needed far less manual assistance from the school’s tech lead.
✅ Consistent Teaching Experience Across Grades: A stable LMS setup ensured that teachers across all grade levels could conduct classes, assessments, and school operations without disruption.
✅ Improved Digital Readiness for the Future: The school now has a scalable technology foundation capable of supporting future academic years, online events, and hybrid learning models.
