Italy's First School Esports League Gets Its Own LearnDash Platform in a Month
A new national league needed its online courses ready fast.
An Italian company that turns popular games into classrooms.
Maker Camp, led by CEO Marco Vigelini.
Maker Camp uses Minecraft, Roblox, and Fortnite to teach critical thinking, problem solving, and collaboration in schools and museums. Marco also runs the YouTube channel A Scuola con Minecraft. Brands and UNESCO sites hire it for custom game experiences, and its national contests have reached thousands of students.
Marco’s verdict, from his verified Clutch review
Here’s why he came back for a second project.
Maker Camp needed a site for the league’s online courses.
Schools didn’t buy the way people did. Teachers paid for whole classes by transfer.
Most checkouts expected one person paying by card. Here, one order had to set up 30 students, each with a login and a named certificate, and the teacher needed to see everyone’s progress.
- Pay by bank transfer
- A code for the class
- See every student
- Pick from five courses
- Access to videos, texts, quizzes
- A named certificate
The real question
Students aged 16 to 19 took these courses for their school-to-work hours. Could the site handle school purchases and still give every student their own access and certificate in time for the league’s launch?
All in all, it came down to these five requirements
Teachers had to request a purchase and pay by bank transfer, since schools don’t use credit cards.
Each paid purchase had to unlock the platform for a full class of 30 students.
Students needed to join using an access code their teacher hands out to the class.
Every finished course had to produce a certificate of attendance with the student’s own name.
Teachers needed to follow each student’s progress on their own, without asking the organizers.
We advised waiting on an LMS in January. By May, it was time.
Our approach was to set up the courses, fit the class purchase, then personalize every certificate.
01 · The Platform Title
Five self-paced courses on the league’s own subdomain.
WisdmLabs set up LearnDash and WooCommerce on the league’s training subdomain to host five self-paced courses. Each mixes video lectures, texts, software installs, and random quizzes, and issues a certificate on completion.
-
Five courses Students can pick any of them, in any order.
-
Mixed formats Course content available as Videos, texts, software, and quizzes.
-
Certificates included One for every course a student finishes.
02 · The School Purchase
One purchase per class, paid the way schools pay.
WisdmLabs’ own LearnDash Group Registration plugin, linked to WooCommerce, turns each school purchase into a group of 30 seats. Once the bank transfer arrives, access opens and the teacher shares an access code.
-
Built for transfers Access released once payment arrives.
-
Access codes Students join with the code from their teacher.
-
Student visibility Each student’s progress visible to teachers in one place.
03 · The Custom Plugin
A first-login step that puts the right student name on every certificate.
Certificates needed students’ real names, so we built a custom plugin that lets each student set their name at first login. Everything else runs on default LearnDash and Group Registration.
-
Names set once Students confirm them on first login.
-
Personalized certificates Each one carries the right student’s name.
-
Lean build Custom code used only where defaults fell short.
From a scope email in May to a finished platform in July.
