How an SAP Training Partner's Hand-Drawn Quiz Logic Became a Working LearnDash System
Missed questions return until the score reads 100%.
It started with a client who arrived with the system already designed.
RES Education GmbH, a German training and consultancy firm.
Led by Süntke Remmers, MD and CEO, RES Education helps organizations assess employee competencies and align them with strategic goals. Its skill assessment programs identify areas of improvement and keep teams compliant with management objectives, pairing innovative learning methods with structured evaluation so workforce capability keeps climbing.
But the story is best told across eight years of it.
A small plugin tweak in 2018. A whole LMS by the end.
What good is a passing score if the knowledge fades?
Standard quizzes grade once and forget.
Building an adaptive, quiz-driven assessment system in LearnDash brought layered complexity: sequential logic reacting to scores, a 100% accuracy requirement, department-wise tracking, a consistent UI, and a major LearnDash update waiting to break it all.
- Honest self-checks
- Second chances
- Topics they choose
- 100% accuracy standard
- Department dashboards
- Update-proof code
The real question
A certificate means little if the knowledge is gone by next quarter. The question was how to make an LMS remember what each employee got wrong, and keep asking, quiz period after quiz period, until they don’t get it wrong anymore.
All in all, it came down to these 5 non-negotiables.
Each quiz had to change dynamically based on how the learner scored on the previous one.
Employees had to reach 100% correctness by reattempting missed questions in later quiz periods.
Departments needed their own groups and dashboards displaying performance results.
The UI had to stay consistent while extensive quiz and dashboard changes landed underneath it.
A major LearnDash update had to arrive without breaking any of the existing custom functionality.
Building it meant giving every wrong answer a road back.
Ten pieces, one system that refuses to let learning slip.
01 · The Mastery Loop
Questions that come back until they land.
A dynamic quiz structure decides the next set of questions from the learner’s previous performance. Incorrect answers return for reattempts during subsequent quiz periods, and the loop only closes at complete accuracy, turning every assessment into a path to 100%.
-
Sequential logic Each quiz adapts to the score before it.
-
Reattempt cycles Missed questions resurface in later periods.
-
Mastery standard Nothing counts as done below 100%.
02 · Teams & Choice
Departments see progress; learners steer it.
Groups configured by department organize learners cleanly, with customized group dashboards displaying quiz scores, progress, and performance summaries per team. An agile learning module lets learners choose topics of interest, replacing the rigid one-size-fits-all curriculum with a learner-driven approach that lifts engagement.
-
Department groups Learners organized the way the company is.
-
Performance dashboards Scores and summaries per team, at a glance.
-
Learner-chosen topics An agile module replaces the fixed curriculum.
03 · Built to Outlast Updates
Custom logic that survives its platform.
The LearnDash theme was customized for stronger visual hierarchy and usability, with consistent styling maintained across modules for a unified experience. When a major LearnDash update arrived, functionality issues were resolved and the custom code optimized so quiz logic and design held steady through the upgrade.
-
Theme refinement Clearer hierarchy, easier navigation.
-
Consistent styling One look across every module.
-
Update-proofing Quiz logic and design intact after the upgrade.
From a plugin adjustment to a complete learning management system.
Uptime through it all
Quicker to assess a team
Sharper skill accuracy
Satisfaction on record
With the loop in place, here's what testing looks like at RES.
From one attempt to as many as it takes until it sticks
one attempt, one score
Quizzes ended whether learning happened or not
No department view of performance
Custom code at the mercy of updates
asked until it sticks
Missed questions return until every answer lands
Dashboards show each team’s scores and progress
Update-proofed code, learner-chosen topics
Learners passing quizzes & forgetting by next quarter?
Ask missed questions again in later quizzes, until each learner gets to 100%. With dashboards by department and code that survives updates.
