How a 23-Year-Old Pen Store Moved 36,991 Customers Off StoresOnline
Joseph’s platform was ending. His store’s history couldn’t.
A brief that arrived in three sentences and full formality.
Passion4Pens.com, owned and run by Joseph Ptasinski.
Founded in 2002, Passion4Pens sells fountain pens, inks, refills, and accessories from well-known brands, a small internet business built on quality, good value, and personalized service for writing enthusiasts and collectors. Joseph corresponds the way he does business, formally and carefully, always signing off in full, and he reached us through HonestHost’s StoresOnline migration program.

Migration was more than a data transfer task here
One unwritten rule: move everything, change nothing.
The store's whole history had to move. Joseph wanted it moved rather than reinvented
The migration had to cover the business-critical parts of the storefront without becoming a redesign: customers, products, pages, orders, images, forms, payments, and shipping. Asked whether he wanted any visual changes, Joseph’s answer was simply “No.”
- 36,991 customers
- 1,863 products, all pages
- Valid order history
- Images and the 'Specials' form
- PayPal Payments for WooCommerce
- USPS Ground Advantage shipping
- Core site functionality
The real question
Joseph raised exactly one worry, in his own words: “Will there be a time where I will not be able to get in my SOL store during this migration or any other restriction?” Continuity was the entire brief.
All in all, it came down to these 4 non-negotiables.
A large active dataset had to move intact: 1,863 products, 36,991 customers, and 8,995 orders.
Users, products, pages, and eligible orders had to migrate together, in one coordinated flow.
The new store needed working payments, shipping, and its ‘Specials’ form ready on arrival.
Functional migration only: operational continuity first, with design changes kept out of scope.
Custom scripts and controlled setup steps, built for StoresOnline exits.
Seven workstreams, moving a store layer by layer.
01 · Customers & Orders
The records a store cannot afford to lose.
A purpose-built migration script extracts and maps legacy StoresOnline customer records into the WordPress user structure, in a format WooCommerce can work with. Order history moves the same disciplined way: pending and completed orders only, filtered to valid, business-relevant states, so continuity carries over without historical clutter.
-
36,991 customers preserved Account data forming the new store’s foundation.
-
8,995 orders carried across Useful continuity, without legacy noise.
-
Scripted, not improvised Custom tooling instead of loose manual transfers.
02 · Catalog, Content & Forms
Everything customers see, moving together.
All 1,863 products are in the process of migrating through the same tailored framework, with legacy data aligned to WooCommerce’s product model rather than dumped in loose. Pages are migrating through WisdmLabs’ custom migration tool alongside the commerce data, and the ‘Specials’ form was recreated in WordPress with the image folder uploaded in scope.
-
A commerce-ready catalog Products recreated inside a usable ecommerce structure.
-
Content moving with the store Pages in the same track, not rebuilt later.
-
Functionally complete Forms and supporting assets included, beyond checkout.
03 · Payments, Shipping & Polish
Ready to transact, without scope creep.
PayPal Payments for WooCommerce is being configured for payment processing, alongside USPS Simple Shipping with Ground Advantage support, so the transactional and fulfillment layers are set up inside the migration rather than left as a post-move dependency. Frontend work stays limited to the manual CSS changes the platform transition genuinely requires.
-
Transactions being prepared Payments and shipping configured within the migration itself.
-
Fulfillment on new rails USPS Ground Advantage, the method Joseph asked for.
-
Polish without a redesign Only the CSS the migrated build needs.
A legacy platform exit, running as a structured, layered move.
