Passion4Pens is an online store dedicated to fountain pens and premium writing instruments. Founded in 2002, the company offers a wide range of pens, inks, refills, and accessories from multiple well-known brands.
It operates as a small, internet-based business focused on providing quality products, good value, and personalized customer service. The platform caters mainly to writing enthusiasts and collectors, helping them find both everyday and specialty pen products.
“What stood out in this project is the need to treat migration as more than just a data transfer task. For a store of this size, the real value came from moving the right data in a structured way, while also making sure payments, shipping, forms, and core functionality were ready inside WooCommerce.”

Client Journey
The existing Passion 4 Pens store was running on StoresOnline, and the migration needed to cover the business-critical parts of the storefront without becoming a redesign project.
The migration had to account for multiple layers at once:
The goal was to rebuild the store functionally on WooCommerce while preserving continuity for the business and avoiding unnecessary scope expansion into design changes.
The Challenge
This was not a small catalog move. The store included 1,863 products, 36,991 customers, and 8,995 orders. That meant the migration needed to be handled with a purpose-built approach rather than relying on loose manual transfer methods.
This project wasn’t just about products. The store also needed users, pages, and eligible order history to be migrated into the new WooCommerce setup, which increased the dependency between data layers and required a coordinated migration flow.
Migration alone was not enough. The WooCommerce store needed to be usable after setup, which meant configuring PayPal Payments for WooCommerce, USPS Simple Shipping, and recreating the existing ‘Specials’ form on the new site.
A key project constraint was that the estimate covered functional migration only. Design or layout modifications were not included, so the implementation had to stay focused on operational continuity while using only necessary manual CSS changes to support the migrated build.
We approached the engagement as a focused WooCommerce migration project using custom scripts and controlled setup steps tailored for StoresOnline-to-WordPress transitions.
1
We used a purpose-built migration script to extract and map legacy StoresOnline customer records into the WordPress user structure, so account data could be brought over in a format WooCommerce could actually work with.
Result: Customer data was preserved as part of the new WooCommerce store foundation.
2
All 1,863 products are in the process of migrating through the same tailored framework, with the legacy product data aligned to WooCommerce’s product model so the catalog could be recreated inside a usable ecommerce structure rather than handled as a loose data dump.
Result: The product catalog was transferred into a commerce-ready structure on WordPress.
3
We are migrating all existing pages using WisdmLabs’ custom migration tool, which allowed the site’s content layer to be moved directly into WordPress along with the commerce data instead of splitting content and store migration into separate tracks.
Result: The content layer of the site was moved alongside store data, not left behind as a separate rebuild task.
4
We’re migrating all pending and completed orders from StoresOnline into WooCommerce, filtering the migration to only valid business-relevant order states so the new system retained useful order continuity without carrying over unnecessary historical clutter.
Result: The new system preserved relevant order continuity without importing unnecessary legacy noise.
5
The existing user form, including the Passion4Pens.com “Specials” form, was recreated inside WordPress, and the image folder was uploaded as part of the migration scope so the site’s supporting functional assets moved with the store data instead of needing to be rebuilt afterward.
Result: The store remained functionally complete beyond just products and checkout.
6
We’re configuring PayPal Payments for WooCommerce for payment processing and USPS Simple Shipping for WooCommerce, with support for USPS Ground Advantage, so the migrated store has its transactional and fulfilment layers set up directly in WooCommerce rather than left as a post-migration dependency.
Result: The migrated store is being prepared to handle real transactions and shipping operations.
7
Because this was not a redesign engagement, we limited frontend work to the manual CSS changes required to support the migrated build, mainly to stabilize presentation and usability where the platform transition created gaps.
Result: The new WooCommerce store could be stabilized visually without expanding the scope into a full design overhaul.
Result
Where the platform stands today
👉 Created a clear migration path from StoresOnline to WooCommerce, covering the store’s most critical layers: users, products, pages, valid orders, forms, images, payments, and shipping
👉 Scoped the migration of 36,991 customers, 1,863 products, and 8,995 eligible orders, giving the project a defined technical and operational structure from the start
👉 Reduced migration risk by planning the move through custom StoresOnline-to-WordPress migration scripts instead of depending on generic import tools for a large legacy dataset
👉 Kept the transition practical by migrating only business-relevant order statuses, such as pending and completed, instead of carrying unnecessary legacy records into the new WooCommerce setup
👉 Ensured the project was not limited to data transfer alone by including the setup of PayPal payments, USPS shipping, forms, and image assets as part of the migration scope
👉 Protected the project timeline and budget by keeping the engagement focused on functional continuity, with redesign and layout changes explicitly kept out of scope
👉 Established a more usable and future-ready WordPress commerce foundation, where store data and operational workflows could be managed inside WooCommerce rather than a legacy platform
