What were the Client’s Requirements?
The client needed a WooCommerce website built, entirely from scratch. A ‘Save and Restore Cart’ functionality had to be added, and the shop page and add-to-cart process, had to be completely customized. The client provided us PSDs based on which the pages on the site were designed.
How did We Provide a Solution?
The client wanted a website built, to sell premium tea leaves. Based on our discussions with the client, we concluded that an e-Commerce site, with WooCommerce, would suit the client’s needs. The client provided us PSDs for the website design. Based on the PSDs we selected the Bear Store theme and customized it.
Since we were using the WooCommerce plugin, we had to customize the page templates for the theme. The Shop page was customized to display product categories by default using featured images for categories. A functionality was added, which listed the products under a particular category as an overlay text on the category image, on hover. Such a functionality was added to make it simple for customers to view all products belonging to a particular category in a single glance.
Upon selection of a particular category, the product thumbnails were made to displayed on the category archive page, by customizing the archive page template. The product categories were also displayed on the archive page, in a sidebar, for improved user experience.
The product details were displayed in a popup, upon selection of a particular product item. The look of the popup was changed, and a custom scrollbar was added. The add to cart button was directly added on the popup, so that the item could be added to the WooCommerce cart. But the client needed a restriction on the add-to-cart functionality.
According to the client’s requirements, we had to enforce a limit on the number of items a customer could purchase in a single order. For this, we changed the add-to-cart functionality to restrict number of products in the cart. The cart page template was also modified, to allow used to directly select a specified number of items.
A major functionality that was added, was a ‘Save and Restore Cart’ extension for WooCommerce. This plugin served as an option to allow site visitors to add products to the cart and save it. This cart could then be resorted when needed, to make the purchase and complete the order.
The WPML plugin was integrated and configured on the site, and the login and registration form was customized.
