It’s the holiday season! And you know what that means?! No, not the decorations. The shopping! Yayy! 😀 There are sales everywhere, e-v-e-r-y-where. I’ve made a list too.
- Leather Gloves (for moi)
- Pashmina shawl (for mum)
- Sweater (for dad)
- Wrapping Paper
- Candy Canes
Must be simpler to manage such items in an online store, than in a physical store… right??
Holiday Specials or Limited-Time Products
Okay, so how would limited-time products feature in an online store (more specifically your WooCommerce store)?
- In WooCommerce, an item would be added as a product.
- If you want to feature a product after a certain date, you either have to create and publish the product on the same day, or save it as a draft, and publish it on that day.
- Once the limited-time period is over, you’ll have to take these products off of sale, by either deleting them, or setting them to draft.
- Of course a big problem is the Product URL which you will then have to redirect.
Okay. Not so simple.
Is there a better option then?
Sell Limited-Time Products in Your WooCommerce Store
Last week, WisdmLabs rolled out a new plugin, WooCommerce Scheduler. And the timing could not have been better, because it’s just what store owners would need to sell products for a limited time. This means you can use the WooCommerce Scheduler, to sell holiday special items during Christmas.
Apart from holiday special items, you can use the WooCommerce Scheduler to sell:
- Introductory Items
- Promotional Products
- Seasonal Items
- Daily Specials
Let’s take a look at how the WooCommerce Scheduler can help you easily manage limited-time products.
How to Use the WooCommerce Scheduler Plugin
To begin with, you’ll have to purchase the plugin, and install and activate it on your site. Once you’ve done that, additional settings will be added to every WooCommerce product add/edit page.
Add Start Date and End Date
So let’s say you want to schedule a product (baubles) sale (not a sale on the price, but a purchase availability), from the 19th of December to 28th of December. When creating the product, you have to set the Start Date as 12/12/2014, and End Date as 28/12/2014.
And publish the product. No need to keep it as a draft. Go ahead, publish it.
Publish the Product
Once that’s done, you’ll find your product in your WooCommerce Shop, but without a purchase option. Which is great. Because buyers know, that you will be selling this product in your store soon, and can wait for it to be available. If you have a notification plugin added, you can allow interested buyers to add the product to their wish list or to subscribe for an availability notification.
On 19th of December, the product will be available for purchase, at the price you’ve set. Customers can now make a purchase as usual, in your WooCommerce store.
All well so far? Let’s continue.
Beyond the End Date
After 28th of December, the product will be unavailable for purchase, but still present in your shop. Your product URL is unaffected, so interested customers can contact you in case they want to make purchases.
Schedule One Day Sales
To schedule one day sales, you have to set the start date and end date as the same date. What’s great, is that the WooCommerce Scheduler works with all product types. So, you can even set up and sell product bundles as a daily special.
How does that sound? If that sounds like something you would be interested in, you have to check out the WooCommerce Scheduler plugin. Do let me know your thoughts and questions, in the comment section below.
